Haiti Education Project
In 2012-2013 we started our support of the Bellevue Community School in Gressier, Haiti – a school founded by a young Haitian man named Maxo using his own money to give the children of his community who could not afford to go to even a missionary school an education. With the help of a Gundaker Grant, we were able to supply food for the children for several months. For many of the students, this was the only meal they would get that day. Gundaker has also helped us to provide a new structure for the growing school. The Garnet Valley Interact Club raised money to support one teacher for a year.
We partnered with the Rotary Clubs of Media, Chester and Twin Valley through a district 7450 district grant to bring a well to the school and community. The Rotary Club of Longwood and our club provided a large amount of the only relief the community received after the hurricane.
The Bellevue Community School, as a grass roots school, is not affiliated with a not for profit. A rotarian from our club along with her colleagues started Mommy Sue’s Children, a 501(c)3 as a vehicle to provide funding to the school. 100% of any funds raised go directly to Haiti to support the school For more information on Mommy Sue’s Children and the Bellevue Community School, click here. To learn more about our involvement with the school, please download our brochure. To donate to support the children of the school through Rotary Ideas, click here.
